Film engineering
Start with the active ingredients and combined amount per strip. Then choose a film base and dimensions that suit the formula.
HPMC for the usual commercial brief. Pullulan for a premium option. Sampling confirms the texture and handling.
A thin-film dissolution reference at around 20–30 mg total actives. Higher-load formulas may need more time to dissolve.
Low-dose briefs such as melatonin alone, B12 or D3. Combined formulas need their total loading checked.
Daily nutrition and compatible caffeine, NAD+ or botanical briefs. A 20–30 mg active load is the usual thin-film starting point.
Higher-load caffeine and multi-ingredient briefs. Additional matrix and taste masking can produce a thicker, slower-dissolving film.
A 50 mg caffeine brief needs extra bitterness masking. A blend with 100 mg of actives also needs room for the film base and flavors. Some higher-load formulas may weigh 400–500 mg in total, producing a thicker film with slower dissolution. We can compare a larger strip, revised loading or a different serving format during sampling.
These dimensions and loading bands are development references. Custom sizes are available; the approved sample defines the final thickness and dissolution profile.

Buyer questions
Practical answers for brands comparing oral thin film contract manufacturing, formulas and packaging.
An oral dissolving film (ODF) is a thin, water-soluble strip that dissolves in the mouth without water. You may see oral thin films (OTF) in manufacturing briefs, orodispersible films in the UK and EU, and dissolvable tongue strips in the US and Canada. Orally disintegrating strips (ODS) and waterless pocket strips are other terms buyers may use. Sublingual and buccal films refer to specific placements: under the tongue and against the inside of the cheek, respectively. Follow the directions on the finished product label.
A ready formulation uses an existing blend. Our current catalogue includes 15 ready oral strip products, with 20 strips per box except the 30-strip creatine product. Our proprietary caffeine ODF has a 500-box minimum. Custom development starts with your ingredient and dose brief, then samples are made for approval. Confirm the formula, current availability and packaging before ordering.
We can review caffeine, melatonin, vitamins, botanical extracts and the other product directions shown on this page. Ingredient compatibility, the combined amount per strip, taste and stability determine the workable formula. Send your ingredient specifications and amounts for a feasibility review.
Our usual fast-melting development reference is 20–30 mg of total actives. The size guide also includes higher-load formats, but it is not a guarantee that every ingredient blend will fit. More actives and taste-masking ingredients can make the strip thicker and slower to dissolve. The sample establishes the final size, thickness and dissolution profile.
A 50 mg caffeine brief needs additional taste masking. We assess the caffeine source, sweetener and flavor system together, then let your team compare samples. The extra film matrix and flavor ingredients can increase strip weight. Approve the taste and melt time together before fixing the production specification.
HPMC is our usual commercial film base. Pullulan is available for premium briefs. We choose the base with you around the formula, texture, dissolution target and budget, then confirm the choice through sampling.
Multiply the number of boxes by the agreed strips per box. For example, 500 boxes of 20 strips contain 10,000 strips; 500 boxes of 30 contain 15,000. Your quotation states both quantities, with the sachet and carton specification. Pack count is customizable.
Yes. You can use the universal stock roll film and customize the outer box, or supply artwork for custom-printed foil sachets. Confirm the available stock film and the label information required for your market before approving the packaging. See the packaging options on this page.
Send your target country, product direction, ingredients and amounts per strip, flavor, planned box quantity, strips per box and packaging idea. Include your intended launch date and any required tests or shelf-life target. If the formula is still open, Cara can start with a sample brief.
Before shipment, we provide the batch certificate of analysis (COA), product specification sheet and factory inspection report. Tell us the tests and documentation your procurement team needs when you submit the brief, so the scope is agreed before production. See the batch documents section for details.
No. The permitted ingredients, amounts, product classification and label requirements depend on the destination. Confirm the target country before developing the formula, particularly for melatonin projects in Southeast Asia. Packaging and claims need to fit that market.
